A curated collection

Taylor Meredith

My sister-in-law had a baby recently and my husband and I are so excited to get to know our first niece. Her parents are both avid readers and she already has quite the collection of board books and classics. As part of our baby shower gift to her, we decided to purchase one book for each month of her first year. We are going to write a few words of wisdom (go on adventures, have big dreams, normal is boring...) inside each of these books to read as she gets older . Hours were spent debating which titles we should add to her collection and here is what has made the final cut:

Rosie Revere, Engineer
By Andrea Beaty
The Other Side
By Jacqueline Woodson
Extra Yarn
By Mac Barnett
The Dot
By Peter H. Reynolds
The Family Book
By Todd Parr
Chrysanthemum
By Kevin Henkes
Library Lion
By Michelle Knudsen
Piggybook
By Anthony Browne
The Gingerbread Boy
By Richard Egielski

I debated providing the rationale for each of the choices but considered my audience and realized that most of you will understand without the commentary. It was difficult choosing a curated collection (each book serves a specific purpose) and not just my absolute favorites (my original shopping cart had about 30 or so absolute favorites) and I hope she will love these as much as we do.

I would LOVE to know: What other titles should we add to her collection? What are your favorite picture books?
